Rams Crush Cardinals 42-14
The Cardinals' playoff hopes almost certainly came to an end in this one as they fall to 5-7 on the season. The Rams were explosive right out of the gates as they rattled off 14 points in 2 commanding drives to start the game and took a 14-point lead 11 minutes into the game.
However, the Cardinals responded on the very next play with a 75-yard touchdown run from Adrian Peterson. Peterson rushed for 137 yards on 20 carries. He has now run the football 63 times with Kyle Peltz at the helm and has rushed for 431 yards in these 2 games. Despite an extremely slow start to the season, Peterson has all but locked up another 1000-yard season as he only needs to gain 119 yards total in the last 4 games of the season. On Los Angeles' next drive they managed to get into field goal range at the 34 yard line before the drive stalled. Antoine Bethea blocked the kick and took it to the house to even the game at 14-14 as the first quarter came to a close. Unfortunately, 14 was all that Arizona would get in this one, as the Rams defense stifled the Cards' offense. Jared Goff went on to throw 4 more touchdown passes; 2 to Watkins and 2 to Kupp. He wound up with 5 touchdowns and zero interceptions on the day and completed over 80%
of his passes in what was likely the best game of his young career.
Larry Fitzgerald caught 5 passes today and picked up 62 yards. He now has 80 catches and 884 receiving yards in 2017. He is just 19 yards away from passing Randy Moss as 3rd place all-time in receiving yards.
If he sticks around for another season, he'll likely pass Terrell Owens and become the 2nd most prolific receiver in NFL history in terms of receiving yards.
Matt Barkley got his second straight start today and threw an interception early on. He wasn't quite as good as he was in his start last week against Jacksonville and Blaine Gabbert came in for him late in the 4th quarter. When prompted, interim head coach Peltz declined to discuss whether Barkley would start again next week against the Titans.

Cards Dominate Jags, Win 31-17
The Cardinals showed out in this Week 12 win to advance to 5-6 and keep their small playoff hopes alive. From the beginning of the game,
Adrian Peterson was the story of the game. He came 2 yards shy of breaking his record for rushing yards in a single game. Not only did he rush for 294 yards, but he did it against one of the league's most dominant defenses. Jacksonville lived up to its reputation as "Sacksonville" as they brought down first-time starter Matt Barkley 6 times, but they simply had no answer against Adrian Peterson who rushed the ball an incredible 43 times. Speaking of Matt Barkley, he performed well overall despite some early accuracy issues. He lost a fumble on a rushing attempt early in the game, but he managed to avoid throwing an interception in the game. He threw the ball 29 times and completed 18 passes for 195 yards. Blake Bortles also threw the ball 29 times, but only completed 15 of his throws as he struggled with accuracy all game.
Most of Jacksonville's offense came on 2 big plays today, but the Arizona defense was pretty lights out other than that. The Cardinals dominated the time of possession today as they held the ball for just over two-thirds of the game. Leonard Fournette ran for a 58 yard touchdown in the first quarter, but on his other 12 carries the Cardinals held him to just 12 yards. Besides the one big play, Jacksonville's running game was a non-factor. Kyle Peltz said he was proud of his team after the game, but that there were still some glaring issues, such as holes in the secondary and an inability to throw the ball down the field. It remains to see whether the Cardinals running game has come alive or whether this game was a fluke performance. The answer to that question will likely determine whether the Cardinals can contend for a playoff spot this season. The Cardinals face the Rams next week in Arizona.

Arians Resigns, Enter Peltz
Bruce Arians has resigned as head coach of the Arizona Cardinals in an unexpected turn of events. The team has placed the offensive coordinator, Kyle Peltz, in an interim head coaching role.
Howvever, Peltz made it clear that he expects to keep the job following this season. "I would not have accepted this position if I didn't think I could keep it after this season. This team has been in a downward spiral this season and I plan on changing the culture of this franchise moving forward. Losing will no longer be tolerated," said the confident Peltz.
He also went on to say that he plans on implementing many of the lessons he learned as a Bellichick disciple in New England. That task is easier said than done, but with the state that this team is in, a change in leadership could inject some life into the franchise and change the course for the better. Only time will tell.

Clippers blown out in season opener
The Clippers season began today in Sacramento, but the team did not show up. They played well for most of the 1st quarter, but then their defense fell apart for the rest of the game. They trailed by just 5 at the half, but the Kings proceeded to outscore them 35-14 in the 3rd quarter to put the Clippers away early. The final score was 110-83 The only positive to come out of this game is that the starters should be fresh for their home opener tomorrow night against the Mavericks since they did not play at all in the 4th quarter. Even without Demarcus Cousins in the Kings' lineup, the Clippers allowed 54 points in the paint. Willie Cauley-Stein looked more like DeAndre Jordan than Deandre Jordan did. Rudy Gay led all scorers with 22 points, however the Clippers did hold him to 9/26 from the field. One of the biggest problems last year for the Clippers was their inability to guard small forwards. Lance Stephenson and Josh Smith provided solid defense throughout the game which was nice to see since they were signed in large part to fix that problem. The duo also provided 21 points on 9/18 shooting.

Tigers crushed 14-2
Alfredo Simon struggled from the outset, but some critical defensive mistakes allowed the Indians to break the game open. The Tigers only offense today came in their first three at-bats. Gose drew a walk, Kinsler hit a triple, and then Cabrera drove in Kinsler with a ground ball to the right side of the infield for his 100th RBI of the season. This is the 12th consecutive season where Miguel has driven in 100+ RBI which puts him one season short of tying the all-time record. Alex Rodriguez, Lou Gehrig, and Jimmie Foxx all had streaks of 13 consecutive seasons. At just 31 years of age, Miguel Cabrera should be able to hit at this level for at least a few more years and barring injury, it seems likely that he will break the all-time record. He is hitting .322 with 33 homers as well this season and is in contention for his 3rd AL MVP title. Currently, Mike Trout and Troy Tulowitzki are considered slight favorites in Vegas, but a strong finish to the season as well a Tigers postseason berth could get him over the hump. Tomorrow the Tigers will look to bounce back and tie the series with the Indians with Randy Wolf (9-5, 3.85 ERA) takes the mound. Gavin Floyd (7-15, 4.88 ERA) will start for Cleveland. Despite the fact that the Tigers are still only 2 games back of the Angels for the second wild-card spot they will have to turn things around soon if they hope to qualify for the postseason. They have gone 13-32 since the All-Star break after starting the season at a staggering 56-34 clip. It's been a weird season and hopefully another twist of fate will allow Detroit to advance to the postseason for the 5th consecutive season.
2015 Game 135 vs. Indians Preview
The Tigers are currently sitting at 69-65 with 28 games remaining on the schedule. They are 5 games behind Kansas City in the AL Central after salvaging the final game of their recent series with the Royals despite losing the first two. Detroit is 2.5 games behind the Angels for the second wild card spot. Detroit cruised their way to the All-Star break, but have had the worst record in baseball since. It is a testament to how well they played in the first half of the season that they are still even in contention for a playoff berth. The Tigers begin a 6 game home stand Friday, September 4th, with 3 game sets against Cleveland (62-70) and Tampa Bay (63-70). Alfredo Simon (9-10, 4.30 ERA) will start for Detroit on Friday and he will face Cleveland's hard-throwing right-hander Zach McAllister (2-3, 3.64 ERA).
