The Lions defense forced 3 more turnovers, and held the Vikings to just 256 yards of offense, in their 38-17 victory Sunday in Minnesota. With the win, the Lions are off to their first 3-0 start since 2011, when they finished 10-6.
Jared Goff threw a pair of touchdown passes, and also ran one in to lead the offense. Goff has played extremely well during the 3-0 start, with 4 touchdowns and just 1 interception. D'Andre Swift added 95 yards and a touchdown on the ground, and also caught a touchdown pass.
On defense, Jeff Okudah had a pair of interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown. The Lions defense has scored a touchdown in each of the first three games this season. Alex Anzalone had 14 tackles and a sack, and Aiden Hutchinson recorded his 5th sack of the season.
The Lions scored first, on a 5 yard touchdown reception by D'Andre Swift. On the very next drive, Jeff Okudah picked off Viking's QB Kirk Cousins, and returned it 66 yards for a score, and a 14-0 lead. The Vikings got on the board in the second, when Cousins hit Justin Jefferson on a 21 yard pass. It was Cousin's first touchdown of the season.
Following an Austin Seibert field goal that put the Lions up 17-7, Cousins found Irv Smith Jr. on a 9 yard strike, cutting the Lions lead to 17-14 at halftime.
Goff would find Amon-Ra St. Brown from 9 yards out to put the Lions up 10. Greg Joseph connected on a 37 yard field goal late in the third, to make it a one score game at 24-14. With 10:44 left, Goff scored from 4 yards out, to make it 31-17. Then, with 4:00 left in the game, Swift would score from 3 yards out.
The Lions host the Seattle Seahawks next week at Ford Field. Seattle is coming off of a 27-16 loss at home to the Falcons. Rookie tailback Kenneth Walker is off to a good start, averaging 5.1 yards per carry (241 yards on 47 attempts). Quarterback Drew Lock has struggled though, throwing 5 interceptions already. Game time is 1:00PM
Jameson Williams expected back vs Seahawks
Receiver Jameson Williams is set to make his NFL debut against the Seahawks. Williams has been on the roster, but inactive the first three weeks, as he was recovering from a torn ACL in the National Championship game. Williams has been practicing, and appears to be back to full speed, and ready to go. Look for Coach Dan Campbell and offensive coordinator Kyle Dutcher to gradually work him into the lineup.
