LIONS IMPROVE TO 2-0 WITH 31-10 WIN OVER COMMANDERS

This looked like one of those games that the Lions just couldn't put away. After jumping out to a 14-0 lead, they allowed the Washington Commanders to hang around, eventually pulling to within 7 points early in the 4th quarter. An all too familiar thing for Lions fans. But this time, the Lions put the game away.
They are learning. And Fans are starting to see that, maybe, just maybe, this isn't the "same 'ol Lions.
The Lions jumped out to a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter, on a pair of Jared Goff touchdown passes. The first to D.J. Chark, and the second to T.J. Hockenson. But, the offense sort of sputtered along after that.
Fortunately, the Defense was outstanding yet again, holding Washington to just a field goal through three quarters. The Lions led 17-3 heading into the 4th.
Washington cut it to a one score game at 17-10, on a 3 yard pass from Carson Wentz to tight end Logan Thomas. You could quietly hear fans at Ford Field muttering "here we go again"
But the Lions grabbed the game by throat, and took over, driving down the field, capping off a 75 yard drive with a 3 yard touchdown run by Jamaal Williams. Then the defense slammed the door on the game, when rookie linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez punched the ball loose from Antonio Gibson, and Amani Oruwariye picked it up and returned it 75 yards for a touchdown, icing the game.
D'Andre Swift led the way for the Lions with 100 yards on 22 carries. Williams added 51 yards on 8 carries.
Jared Goff was solid again, going 19/25 for 138 yards and two touchdowns.
Alex Anzalone had 11 tackles for the defense. Tracy Walker had an interception. Rookie Aiden Hutchinson had a pair of sacks.
The Lions head to Minnesota next week to face the 0-2 Vikings. Minnesota lost to the Eagles last week 17-10. The Vikings have scored just 10 points total in the first 2 games of the season.
