The Tigers took game 1 of the series, 2-1. Javy Baez and Jeimer Candelario had RBIs for the Tigers. Candelario broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the 9th with an RBI double. Wily Peralta earned the win in relief.

The Tigers again scored in the top of the 9th to break a tie with the Twins. Kyle Dutcher broke a 4-4 tie with his 8th home run of the season. Spencer Torkelson had a pair of RBI for the Tigers. Kyle Funkhouser (2-1) earned the win in relief. Michael Pineda left the game after just 4 1/3 innings, with a hip injury.
