College Football Championship 2014 Cancels Kickstarter, Continues To Work On Game Stuck
Posted on May 31, 2013 at 06:47 PM.

New developer Longshot Games has shut down their Kickstarter fundraiser for College Football Championship 2014. Project leader Josh Brown cited a lack of funding as the main reason for the cancellation:

Quote:
Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the great feedback and support everyone. We obviously won't be making our funding goal this time around. We aren't giving up though. We want a great college football game and we won't quit till we get one. We are going to close this project down tomorrow and take all of the feedback we received and build a slimmed down version of the game that has some of our simulation functionality and dynasty features.

Once our game is out and we've built up a larger fanbase, we'll be back on kickstarter to try funding the full console version of the game.

College Football Championship 2014 had raised just $12,094 of its $1,000,000 goal when funding officially closed this afternoon, with just 66 people backing the project. Since the project failed to meet its funding goal, all pledges have been voided and all backers will not be charged.

Longshot Games will continue developing College Football Championship 2014 and attempt a second Kickstarter once it has a more complete product to sell.

As with many Kickstarters from brand new companies, gamers showed a reluctance to put money into College Football Championship 2014. Longshot Games needed to show more than a feature list and a few isolated player animations to convince sports gamers that their company can build a football game from scratch that's as good or better than current EA Sports and 2K Sports titles.

Operation Sports will continue to monitor College Football Championship 2014 as it progresses through development.

Not even the development of the light bulb would have been funded using the business model these guys employed.

Can't believe I'm just now finding out about this. Sucks that it didn't fall through for them.

Is there some designated time table window in which they can ask for cash at kickstarter? Do they have to give two weeks-four weeks to raise cash or can they give themselves longer? That seemed kind of shady as they could have given themselves more time.

They had 2 months on their fundraiser for kickstart. And they should've definitely lowered their goal rate if they wanted any funds. Since they didn't meet their goal they get nothing, and they're back to where they started.

I really wish that OS and other Sports Gaming Blogs stop reporting on these dubious KickStarter campaigns. Unless it's for mobile, chances are it is fake. This is the second KickStarter they reported on that turned around in 72 hours or less to either be suspended or canceled.

Notice how even major sites only report high-profile KickStarter campaigns because they've learned from this kind of BS and stupidty.

Though they failed to meet their funding goal, this project is definitely not fake and is continuing on.

The developers opened up their forums over the weekend and are taking suggestions and feedback from fans on where the project will go from here:

There is nothing to refund since all the donors were never charged in the first place.

Kickstarter only charges your credit card once a project meets its funding goal.

So since this project didn't meet its funding goal, none of the backers ever got charged.
