Full F-Zero Arcade Game Found On GameCube's F-Zero GX Disc Stuck
Posted on March 9, 2013 at 11:51 AM.

This week, hackers discovered that the entire F-Zero AX arcade game is not only hidden, but actually playable on the Nintendo GameCube's F-Zero GX disc. To access the secret content, players must enter a region-specific Action Replay code before booting up the game:

Given the rarity of finding an F-Zero AX machine anywhere in the United States today, this cheat code will be many gamers' first experience with the arcade cabinet's unique selection of tracks, drivers and car parts.

While all of F-Zero AX's bonus content is featured as a normal unlockable in F-Zero GX, opening up the AX courses and AX car parts requires finishing first in all the game's cups and beating multiple story mode missions on "Very Hard" difficulty -- a task so challenging that less than 5% of players likely ever unlocked the AX content in the original GameCube game.

F-Zero GX was the first-ever collaboration between old rivals Sega, whose Amusement Vision team developed the game, and Nintendo, who published the title and supervised its development. A third company, Namco, was enlisted to support the development and release of the arcade version.

With its nausea-inducing speed and punishing difficulty, F-Zero GX lacked universal appeal, but Amusement Vision's unique racer won over reviewers and gamers alike, receiving an 89 metacritic rating and selling over 250,000 copies in the United States before being inducted into Nintendo's esteemed "Player's Choice" lineup.

The F-Zero series, disappointingly, has not seen a new game since 2004's Japan-only release of F-Zero Climax for the Game Boy Advance.

Could a Wii U version be in the works? With the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) arriving in June, fans continue to hope that Nintendo will someday sponsor Captain Falcon and co. on the next-gen racing circuit.
