3d in sports games and why im excited

if you have seen the recent trend in 3d, the adaptation to sports games seems to be a welcome advancment. the aspect of images jumping off the screen is not what excites me , but the ability to judge depth and distance between 2 objects does. example: the ability to actually see a pocket between a safety and a wide reciever seems to be an incredible visual treat, and then to actually drop a pass in that 3d zone seems to be a beautiful marriage. distance and depth has always been and will be one ... I believe the madden franchise is a case of the boy who cried wolf. Every year they hype up their game with no real change to the stale core gameplay. The madden community sees through the smoke and mirrors, and pretty much demands change. The thing i feel that these gamers desire is a real physics based engine.
