By now I'm sure many of you have read the new NCAA 11 blog regarding the defensive gameplay adjustments to stop a dual-threat quarterback (among other things).
I won't rehash the entire blog but the two biggest points I gathered were...
1. The ability to alter gameplan settings before AND while playing an opponent. This allows us to set the aggressiveness towards a scrambling quarterback when he leaves the pocket, etc.
2. Including defensive logic to determine when and who rushes the quarterback when he leaves the pocket.
First off, I'm amazed at all the comments about how "worthless" of a blog this was.
I'm not seeing what everyone is complaining about. These are high quality additions that make this game more realistic. Also, everyone wants a more realistic game, but then I hear people say that a certain addition means nothing and the blog means nothing because it only has to do with gameplanning.
News Flash: Gameplanning is something that makes this video game extremely realistic. That's football.
Anyways, I'm biased because I am a defensive coordinator in real life so I love what this means for the game. I love the fact I'll be able to adjust a weekly gameplan to adapt to certain personnel.
I also thought the logic that goes into deciding who attacks (i.e, knowing if a teammate is in spy coverage before rushing) is a HUGE step towards realism. This is phenomenal in the realm of video games.
Knowing that my best blitzing linebacker will likely only rush, and only someone in one of the short zones (hook, curl, flat) and the defenders consider the coverage they are in before aggressively pursuing! So if you have a defender that is spying the quarterback, another man won't leave his zone to rush the QB because he knows his teammate's responsibility is to shadow the QB wherever he goes.
You all are missing the boat here. EA is taking a step towards getting these video game players to actually THINK like their real life counterparts. This is a huge step in the right direction for gameplay logic...especially on the defensive side.

I am so glad they added this feature. There was nothing worse in last years game when a QB would scramble and nobody would be within sight even when i had both DE on contain or vice versa when a corner would leave his man to get the scrambling QB just to have him lob a pass downfield for a huge gain. This feature should hinder the defense on stopping dual threat Quarterbacks

Nothing was as frustrating as a blitzing OLB leaving a flooded zone because it was called before a formation shift. Now they're at least trying to "smarten" the AI up a bit.
