The argument in favor of keeping the BCS system with no playoff (from the mouth of the commissioner himself) is all about "What would it do to the tradition of bowl games?"
And now, the argument to keep the Big-12 tie breaker the same is all about "Who will play in the national championship game?"
Isn't this about the student athletes? Ya know, the ones that actually play the games.
The dollar sign is taking over college football.

I haven't heard anyone make the argument that a playoff would result in a more competitive National Championship game. And if you're going to make that argument you can't use one game from one year in basketball as your example. There are few guarantees in sports.
The system has nothing to do with how competitive a game is. That has all to do with how good the teams are in comparison to each other.
