QOTD: Is baseball the perfect analogy for what is great (or not) about America?
- Tiger slips with 74, Lefty takes first ever Open title with brilliant closing 66.
- Napoli flexes his muscles with walk-off win over New York.
- It seems unsustainable but Tampa Bay keeps recycling the same winning formula to stay near the top of the AL East.
- Simply a coincidence or something more? A-Rod can't get healthy since PED testing ramped up.
- Matt Kemp can't catch a break. In return from DL, Dodgers star homers but hurts ankle.
- Gators linebacker Antonio Morrison arrested after barking at dog, resisting arrest.
- Team USA Soccer cruising in Gold Cup, slides into semifinals.
- Really? New Jersey? Jaromir Jagr signing one-year deal with Devils.
- Why baseball is a perfect metaphor for baseball -- according to Brits, it's about our ability to handle failure.

Baseball is the perfect analogy for America. The game continues until it's finished. You play to win.
Skill and craftsmanship over brawn. A mixture of individuality along with playing within a team concept. And most importantly, success in Baseball, unlike the NFL, is most often a result of the Free Enterprise System.. I E The New York Yankees.
The financial model of the NFL is a more socialistic plan, where every team receives the same money regardless of whether they win or lose. And the militaristic description above would make Football more like Soviet Russia vs Baseball which is still Americas game.

OOH, got another one... In Baseball, Anybody can play the game. You don't have to be 6'7 or weigh 300 lbs, or run the 40 in 4.2.
You just have to be good at perhaps a single skill.
Joe Morgan is 5'8 and he's in the HOF.
In Baseball, you can see the faces of the player. They're individuals. But in Football, you can't see the faces, the player is merely a cog in a machine.

Baseball. Not even a question. The perfect reflection of the things that made America great.

Baseball. Our economy is about free enterprise and baseball is all about free enterprise. Only sport in America without a cap. Some hate it, some love it. That's America in a nutshell.

Football, most of the professional players are from America. Baseball is America's past time but how many professional players are brought in from other countries? Don't get me wrong find the best athletes for the sport, it just seems like of all professional sports in the USA, football has the most players that have grown up and played their sport their whole loves in the United States. Basketball and baseball are popular (although maybe not to the same extent) in foreign countries. Football in the sense that it is played in the US is not nearly as idolized in other countries as it is in America.

And no, as far as A-Rod is concerned, it isn't a coincidence. Although I think we need more specific definitions about what a PED is...
