The OS Daily Ten - Major League Baseball Loves the 'Nobody's Perfect' Card Stuck
Posted on May 10, 2013 at 11:04 AM.

Top Sports News for Friday, May 10, 2013

1. MLB Umpires having a rough week.
A botched homerun ruling on a replay one day was followed by a horribly wrong interpretation of another rule last night. In the first instance, Major League Baseball played the "no one is perfect ... it's a judgment call" card. Last night's gaff, however; was a blatant whiff of a commonly known rule regarding pitcher substitution. At least in this case the offended team (LA Angels) still ended up winning.

2. Denver's George Karl named NBA's Coach of the Year.
Karl has been coaching almost thirty years and finally has received the highest honor given to a head coach in the league. The Nuggets reached the playoffs despite a group that lacked big-name stars and several injuries that could have held them back.

3. Vikings finally solidify plans for outdoor games in 2014 and '15.
The late fall and winter advantage held by the Packers, Bills, Bears and more may be coming to Minnesota for at least two years. All sponsorship and concession snags have been settled and TCF Bank Stadium (home of the Golden Gophers) will officially be the 'home' of the Vikings while their new stadium is constructed.

4. 'Homicide by Assault' carries potential five-year sentence for slugging referee.
5. Cleveland Indians giving free tickets on Twitter.
6. Ronde Barber closes book on Hall-of-Fame career.
7. From fists to finished: Sens send Habs home in dominant fasion.
8. Get ready for more college basketball replays.
9. 'Skins owner says team will never change team name.
10. Manti Te'o's fake girlfriend makes 'Maxim's Hot 100' List.

QOTD: What is your reaction to the way the MLB handles miffed replays and incorrect rulings by umpires?

On the issue with the umps - Two very different things, to me. The HR ball in Oakland was a judgement call, and a closer one than many are making it out to be. I am okay with the result of that one (there is no way MLB could have changed that after the fact without having changed Gallaraga's perfect game a year ago). The one in the Angels/Astros game boggles the mind. Umps HAVE to know the rules. To have any credibility at all, Bud must suspend that entire crew. It is inexcusable to have had that happen. They shamed themselves and baseball, and must be held accountable.
