The Mountain West Conference has begun a movement to have their conference added to the list of automatic BCS qualifiers for the FBS bowl season in college football.
Utah, BYU, and TCU all finished in the top 25 at the conclusion of this past season. All teams are from the Mountain West Conference. Utah was the only undefeated team in FBS but was denied a chance to play for the national championship, losing out to one-loss teams Florida, and Oklahoma.
There is much speculation regarding what the response from BCS officials (school presidents) will be regarding the request.
Many feel that the BCS big-whigs will say "well we already have a contract...try again next go-round".
However, such a statement might further validate the arguments of Utah's attorney general in stating that the BCS violates Anti-Trust laws by not giving all schools in FBS a fair chance at a national championship.
There is also a congressional bill from early last year that proposes a restriction on BCS games, preventing the BCS from using the words "national championship" on any of their games unless a playoff is instated.
How do you think the BCS will respond to the requests of the MWC?

I like what this does to BCS officials.
A. They agree to let the MWC in, which opens the flood gates for all other conferences.
B. They refuse, and the anti-trust lawsuits are underway.
Very clever move. If this were a chess match, I would say that the BCS is damn near about to find itself in check.

Another possibility could be that they let them join the BCS and have the Big East share one automatic spot with the MWC and possibly the WAC where Boise could lodge a legitimate complaint. The highest rank between the two or three conference champions would get the automatic bid. That would turn the Big East and MWC into 1/2 BCS conferences and might be the most fair (or 1/3 if they add the WAC). The Big East doesn't deserve an automatic bid anymore imo and they might as well share that bid to get the best team. Nobody watched Cinci in their bowl game. Heck, just remove the 6th automatic BCS bid from the Big East and let the highest ranked non BCS conference champion automatically in.
Just thinking outside the box. It will probably never happen.
