For being as young a team as there is in the league, the Astros didn't show it on opening night. They got an early lift in the 2nd, when LF, J.D. Martinez sent a rocket into the Crawford Boxes to put them up 1-0. They got a quality start out of Wandy Rodriguez, but his struggles in the 5th kept him from getting a decision in this one. With 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th, and trailing by 1, new Astros SS, Jed Lowrie sent a 2-2 fastball off the train tracks to tie the game up for the Astros. Unfortunately, Lowrie's celebration was short lived, as he jammed his wrist the next inning and is expected to miss 1-2 weeks. Both bullpens kept it deadlocked until the bottom of the 13th when 3B, Jimmy Paredes led off the inning with a single and took 2nd on a SAC bunt by Bud Norris. Leadoff hitter, Jason Bourgeois then collected his only hit of the night with a single up the middle scoring the winning run in Paredes.

We haven't even played the first game of the new 2012 season, and the Houston Astros new GM, Jeff Luhnow, is already making moves. Today the Astros announced the signing of 2 veterans, right fielder, J.D. Drew, and LHP Scott Kazmir. Drew will be inserted into the starting lineup immediately, playing left field, and it appears, Kazmir will be put into the 5th spot of the rotation sending J.A. Happ to the bullpen. Drew was quoted saying he wasn't willing to hang up the spikes yet, and he wants to come in and be a leader in this clubhouse and help these young guys turn the corner. Kazmir, who has had his struggles over the past few years with Tampa Bay and Los Angeles was more than ecstatic when he got the call from Luhnow. Kazmir grew up in Houston, pitching at Cy-Falls High School, before being drafted by the Rays. He's hoping Houston can be the spot he revitalizes his career and can get back to the All-Star he once was.

Spring training has come to a close for the Houston Astros, finishing with a dismal record of 12-18. Offensive woes could clearly be an issue this year, as the Astros failed to put up 9 runs in the 30 games, and only 8 one time. The pitching could help pace the 'Stros as they looked promising and could possibly give hope to the Houston fans, but no one should be expecting playoffs for these Houston Astros.

Wandy Rodriguez
After a dismal 2011 season, the Houston Astros are back for the 2012 season, and again look to be the youngest team in the league. After finishing the season 56-106, the expectations aren't very high for the 2012 season, but this young group of guys, looks to quiet all the talk and put together a nice campaign. The Astros look to be led by a group of young offensive guys consisting of J.D. Martinez, Jose Altuve, and newcomer Jed Lowrie. They are also led by veterans on the mound with Brett Myers and Wandy Rodriguez. While some media writers have considered this to be basically a AAA team playing at the major league level, the Astros have other plans as they have come into this year with the motto of "Shock The World." With the new owner, Jim Crane, along with new GM, Jeff Luhnow, they look to help improve on a dismal season. It should be an interesting season down in the space city as they hope to turn the corner.

Going into the 2012 season, this is how the Houston Astros will look (First player listed is starter):
