Porcello, Good Start to Season:
Peralta's Early Season Slump Continues
Game 5: April 12th, 2014
Detroit Tigers @ New York Mets
Game 2 of 3
After falling behind 2-0 in the bottom of the 2nd inning as a result of a Jhonny Peralta error, Porcello turned it up and really got it going. He set down 9 straight including 4 Ks.
I really tried to play station to station ball this game. Fighting an uphill battle, I knew runs were at a premium and tried to scape away. We ended up stringing a few hits together and got both runs back in the top of the 5th inning. Matt Tuiasosopo ended the day with 3 hits and really catalyzed the offense.
Dirks Took the Lead for us with a leadoff homer in the top of the 7th. I pumped my fists in excitement and starting warming up the bullpen because Porcello was getting a little bit tired. I figured that I basically have 3 closers on my roster and that they would come in and get me a few 1-2-3 innings.
The Amazin' Al Alburquerque comes in and immediately gives up a hit and eventually an RBI double to Ike Davis. Sad, no win for Porcello.
At that point I was very disappointed and left Al out there to finish the inning. I even decided to leave him out there for the 8th, he went 3 up, 3 down there.
In the top of the 9th we just got a hold of Mejia. He was trying to groove some fastballs by us and we weren't having any of that. We scored 2 more there and then put the save on Duane Belows left arm vs the lefty-heavy Mets lineup.
That was the first save for Mr. Below. He's a "long reliever" and normally wouldn't be put in this position, but he handled it nicely.
In minor league news:
AAA Toledo Mud Hens (1-2) lost their second straight game. A 5-3 loss to the Louisville Bats. Argenis Diaz and Andres Olivo both recorded a hit. 4 runs given up in 3.1 innings by our starting pitcher. This is getting out of hand quickly...
AA Erie Sea Wolves (1-2) beat the Akron Aeros 1-0. They played a clean defensive game today, no errors and only 5 combined strikeouts for our pitchers. Fred Ragland had another great game (2 for 4, RBI). Brock Keisler and Steven Karlic each had one hit and Keisler drew a walk. Young Guys still showing promise early on this year. Maybe I'll have to keep an eye out for todays starter as well. Kyle Lobstein (I dont like that last name for a pitcher lol)
