Professional Athletes & Coaches Make Me Shake My Head...
Posted on January 11, 2010 at 02:45 PM.
What a wild few weeks its been for sports with Tiger and Agent Zero's integrity stock going WAY down. Tiger has the wrong head guiding the way while Gilbert Arenas' not using his at all.
For Tiger, I don't feel bad for him because he has it all, maybe he's had to work for it but he went to Stanford, plays awesome golf, has a really attractive wife, a good-looking family, and oh yeah his estimated worth is $1 billion. I'm glad his sponsors are dropping him en masse and his wife is leaving him because those kids will suffer on an emotional level, but won't have to worry about never having enough money. In one phrase, it sums up Tiger, "What an idiot!!!"
While I'll reserve my thoughts on gun control, Gilbert Arenas is an idiot. Who brings guns to their workplace:
THAT GUY!!
I swear if any of us non-athletes who work a 9-5 job were to do that, we'd be out of a job, and already in jail. However, these athletes are afforded more leeway. Sure it's still under investigation but c'mon....really?
---------------
How about Mike Leach and Jim Leavitt's reputation going down the toilet? If you were a parent would you send your kid off to play football with those coaches, even if they allegations are false? Mike Leach looks like a jerk and I know looks don't mean much, but he looks like a guy who would lock kids away. Jim Leavitt was a surprise though...
I don't know any of these guys personally, if I did I would probably be making more money but what kills me is when you get to that professional level and you are in the media's eyes day and night, wouldn't you be more careful? Image is every bit as important as production at that level and I swear professional athletes & coaches don't get that. We all do stupid things, I get that but at what point do you sit there and question if what you're doing is right? I just don't get it I suppose...

Athlete's are human like everyone else. We all make mistakes. Just imagine if your worst mistake was broadcast through the media-take a second and imagine that. The only difference is that they are in the spotlight, with a ton of pressure, and even slower news days. Have a little empathy.

I realize they are human, my problem lies in when we don't hear from them. Sure, it might be embarrassing, but it takes a bigger man to admit his mistakes than to hide them and hide from everyone.
I have no compassion for people who bring guns ANYWHERE outside their homes except to hunt. Nor do I have any sympathy for people who continually cheat on their wife, whom they've had children with.
Mike Leach and Jim Leavitt, I just don't know. They were allegedly caught physically hurting players, all eyewitness stuff. I'll reserve my empathy for them until I know more, but on the surface it doesn't look good for them.
