SAN FRANCISCO, CA - The Giants have now responded to their 4 game winning streak last week with a 3 game losing streak this week, due to Monday night's 1-0 loss to the Cubs. The box score tells the story by itself, both Matt Cain and Jeff Samardzija were excellent, shutting out both teams for eight innings. Cain was especially dominant allowing only two hits and striking out eight. However, Cain had to be pulled after the eighth because of pitch count. Reliever Jeremy Affeldt struggled in his one inning pitched, allowing two hits and walking a batter, leading to the lone run in the game. The Giants were able to muster seven hits, but could not push across a run. The shining star in the Giants order was Pablo Sandoval who went 3-4 including a double. Sandoval's average has climbed recently to a team-high .311. It was a game the Giants and Matt Cain would've like to have won, as they are now in second place in the NL West, a half game back from the San Diego Padres. After this series wraps on Wednesday, the Giants will head out to St. Louis to take on an underachieving Cardinals club.
