SAN FRANCISCO, CA - What started out as a predictable blowout in Mike Kickham's first MLB start of the year, ended up being a thriller that came down to the final pitch. Monday's matchup featured two of the National League's top teams battling it out at AT&T Park. The Atlanta Braves got out to a commanding lead, driving in four runs in six innings off the inexperienced Kickham. Conversely, the Giants could only muster one hit off of Brandon Beachy in the first six innings. However, a seventh inning comeback that featured a 3-run blast by Mike Morse brought the game back to even. In the bottom of the ninth, Brandon Belt's one out double off the wall nearly scored Pence, but after a slow jump off of second he was controversially called out at the plate. With Sandoval on third, and two outs, the struggling Joaquin Arias was called on to pinch hit for pitcher Jeremy Affeldt. Arias worked the count full, then fouled off another, before ripping a single through the familiar 5.5 hole, scoring Sandoval. This win keeps the Giants .5 games ahead of the Dodgers in the NL West, with whom they split a four game series ending Sunday.
