Tigers Acquire "Big Game" James

Jair Jurrjens is on the move again. He did not live up to the organization's expectations, and with this being a contract year, the Tigers decided to part ways with the young right-hander.

Jurrjens was decent in this second stint as a Tiger, but he required lots of run support and a deep bullpen to preserve his undefeated record.

Shields is safe for the short term; he has one remaining year on his contract following this season. It wouldn't surprise me if this trade benefited both teams. The Rays also acquired the struggling catching prospect, Robert Stewart.

James Shields' Tigers debut is this Saturday, at home against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He is 4th in the rotation.
