MLB Wild Card Play-In Tiebreakers
Posted on August 26, 2012 at 04:04 PM.
I should mind you that all of these games would not have happened with the old Wild Card system.

Before this game, the Angels and Yankees were tied at 83-79. The winner was set to face the Red Sox in the AL Wild Card Play-In Game. This was essentially Game 163:

New York Yankees at Los Angeles Angels
Oct 5, 2012123456789RHE
New York (83-80)000300200590
Los Angeles (84-79)20200002X6111
W: Garrett Richards (1-2) L: Rafael Soriano (3-5) S: Octavio Dotel (23)

Meanwhile, in the National League, the Giants and Brewers faced a similar predicament:

San Francisco Giants at Milwaukee Brewers
Oct 5, 2012123456789RHE
San Francisco (86-77)00402332014170
Milwaukee (85-78)0005030019140
W: Guillermo Mota (10-6) L: Chris Narveson (6-8) S: Jeremy Affeldt (2)

Due to tiebreaker rules that I am unclear of, the Giants' win made them eligible for another game versus the Rockies. The winner of this matchup advances to the official MLB Wild Card Play-In game to start the Postseason:

Colorado Rockies at San Francisco Giants
Oct 6, 2012123456789RHE
Colorado (86-77)000102100490
San Francisco (86-78)111000000380
W: Josh Outman (2-2) L: Madison Bumgarner (16-6) S: Rex Brothers (43)
