Tough Move Made
Posted on July 18, 2012 at 09:21 PM.
The Tigers budget problem is no secret at all. If the team has hopes of maintaining what it has, then they need to cut costs. As a result, the Tigers got younger with this trade.

The Tigers traded Michael Morse and AA catcher Zach Parker to the Cardinals for Allen Craig and prospects Alan Butler and Rob Wilson.

Morse is likely to exit his prime soon. He is 30 years old. Considering his output, his contract was relatively cheap. However, with the emergence of Mark Trumbo, soon there won't be room for Morse.

Allen Craig can play multiple positions, and the organization lacks bats in the minors. Zach Parker is 31; he has no future. Therefore, Rob Wilson has more upside. The Tigers likely won't struggle without the production of Morse. Miguel Cabrera will be returning to the lineup soon.

Most importantly, $3 million was removed from payroll.
