More Minor Trades

At less than one week away, the trade deadline is nearing.

We traded the aging, yet AAA productive Manny Ramirez to the Angels for prospect Dave Clark. Clarke is speedy and can play all outfield positions. We expect Ramirez to retire, so this prospect is what we get in return.

Additionally, we traded Craig Counsell and Vladimir Guerrero to the Blue Jays for Omar Vizquel and prospects Cal Blake and Emil Mayer.

One could analyze this deal as Omar Vizquel being the shoo-in because of age, but Vizquel will get Counsell's playing time if we don't ship him. If Vizquel stays through the season, he will surely be called up when rosters expand.. He can still play defense, and we want him to live out his last days in the majors.

Cal Blake is an emerging utility man, and Mayer can end up as a situational lefty. We also slash ~$2 million in payroll, mostly from Guerrero.

The Tigers later re-acquired Jim Thome in exchange for Russel Branyan.

The Tigers trade AAA's Omir Santos to the Brewers for Mike Rivera and prospect Buster Burns. Burns was a thrown in, and he can play multiple positions.
