Game 26 @ STL

Justin Verlander returned to the mound. He had a CG shutout last time. The offense helped him out early. Austin Jackson tripled to lead off, and Andre Ethier easily drove him in with an RBI double. Miguel Cabrera touched them all and cleared the bases, still with no outs!

Trouble continued when the Cardinals missed a routine double play ball. Michael Morse, who doubled earlier, scored as a result. Adam Wainwright was removed after only 2/3 IP! All nine Tigers came to the plate in the 1st.

Alex Avila led off the 4th with a double. Jhonny Peralta drove him in. In the 6th, Avila came back up and hit a home run. The Cardinals finally responded in the 6th. With the bases loaded, Jon Jay cleared them with a triple.

Michael Morse had another clutch RBI in the 7th with 2 outs. He drove in Prince Fielder and got back one of the runs. Brad Lidge relieved Justin Verlander, who surprisingly pitched around 12 hits and only gave up 3 runs. Scott Downs followed Lidge out of the bullpen.

Game 27 @ BAL

Josh Beckett made his Tigers debut. The organization was anxious to see if their gutsy move paid off. The Tigers have very little wiggle room in their budget as a result of this deal.

Dylan Bundy pitched aggressively in the first. He paid for it when Miguel Cabrera went deep in the 1st. Prince Fielder went back-to-back with Cabrera off another fastball. After a 1-2-3 debut inning from Josh Beckett, Ian Kinsler led off the 2nd inning with his 1st home run as a Tiger.

In the 3rd, Cabrera homered again with Austin Jackson on base. Ian Kinsler led off the 4th with his 2nd homer of the day. Chris Tillman came on for Bundy. Michael Morse, who doubled, scored on an RBI groundout from Jhonny Peralta. The power surge continued when Andre Ethier hit his first homer as a Tiger.

Jhonny Peralta stretched out a triple to lead off the 7th. Ethier doubled off the wall to score Peralta. In the 8th, Michael Morse homered with 2 outs, stretching the lead to 10-0.

Josh Beckett's effort was amazing. The suspense was building, and he gave up his first hit in the 8th inning. He retired the first 22 batters! It was an amazing start for him. The first hit also scored the first run, a home run from Chris Davis.

BREAKING NEWS: Josh Beckett injured his finger, 1 out after surrendering the first hit and run of the game. He left the game.

Mark Melancon pitched for the injured Josh Beckett and did not give up anything.
