Every year, no matter how good (or bad) Madden is, the discussion inevitably divulges into the aspirations of all 2k fans that someday, they are allowed to once again compete with Madden, and force EA to "step their game up." Well, it seems to me, EA is doing just that with NBA Live 10, and lo and behold, those same fans seem to be crying foul.
This is coming from a player who purchased a Dreamcast exclusively for 2K's sports offerings, and has played them religiously ever since. I owned each iteration of 2K basketball that's ever existed, and I haven't personally bought NBA Live since 1999. That being said, I'm no fanboy in the sense that I have to buy one companies game based solely on the developer who made it. On the contrary, I owned both NFL 2K5 & Madden 2005 because both games were great and deserving (and let's be honest, I could afford it, the 20$ price didn't hurt one bit )
To say that Live is once again on the level of 2K isn't just an opinion, it's a fact. Everybody who preaches competition should be rejoicing but all I've seen around here is 2K fanboys griping whenever someone mentions the faults in their game. These are the same people who routinely break down every molecule of Madden each and every year just to nitpick and whine. Why is it sacreligious to point out a game's faults, no matter who made it? Why is it wrong to acknowledge that, at least for this year, 2K simply didn't do enough?
IMO, you can't go wrong with either title, they both have equal strengths and weaknesses, but let's be clear. This whole scenario is very reminiscent of 2K4 Football, anyone who remembers can recall the feeling that 2K was at the doorstep, even with Madden being deemed as almost classic that year. If 2K doesn't "step up their game" next year, we will have a changing of the guard, and we all, as consumers, will be better for it. Unless, of course, 2K could somehow find a way to buy that pesky NBA license...........

I wouldn't say 2K is the same, but it's definitely starting to show it's age, which is quite weird considering this generation is just coming into it's prime.
Like I've said in other posts, I feel 2K should have been built from the ground up for the switch to next-gen. Unfortunately, if you recall, 2K6 was basically a straight port with updated player models, and they've been building on that foundation ever since...
