ANYONE ELSE SICK OF FLOPS IN THE NBA!!!!
Posted on April 28, 2012 at 06:38 PM.
as i am watching the first game of the knicks playoff vs miami. i am disgusted at how many times the referee is calling flops. Which brings me to my next rant. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE NBA? Am i the only person that thinks todays nba is like playing touch football with 80 year old nuns? You just cant make any contact? Does anyone remember 90's basketball? Now dont get me wrong, i appreciate the fact that players are more athletic, stronger, because of modern day medicine and training. I appreciate the fact that the game is faster. I appreciate the fact that a majority of ballplayers have to work together on defense.(ZONE) I appreciate the fact that the team concept is become more incorporated. would bruce bowen be a lock down defender in todays NBA? Would MJ fall on the ground after a pick and roll, then run around like a fish outta water? HELL NO!!! he would talk smack get up and PUNISH anyone responsible. Would the detroit pistons win a championship with hard grimey defense. Would kevin mchale be as dominant with hard work, the size of his heart, and sheer will rather then skill in todays nba? Has the nba made this game change, so the most athletic and skilled players succeed. Has the gritty hard working player, disappeared along with the hand check? Has the nba made cry baby stars wanna flop because, its easier then putting a elbow to your opponent CHEST, punishing him so he knows whos paint it is. Is it easier give away techs for wagging your finger after a block, rather then letting some emotion change momentum? What happened to crushing your opponents will first. Is that not allowed anymore. cmon people! I understand things need to change and things will allways evolve. What has happened to being tuff. Takeing that shot to the gut and keep moveing forward. There is a time to take a charge and a time to sell a foul. My problem is now every foul goes to who can act the best!!!And the only acting the stars of my day did.....was on a nike commercial.

Flopping is present in the NBA and the college level. I can't think that the NBA somehow thinks flops are good for their product. Absolutely no one likes watching flops. It's widely understood that the NBA is a money-making enterprise. The fact that they call in favor of obvious flops just shows a complete lack of business sense and incompetence. LeBron acting like he got floored by Carmelo's one arm and getting the call was just disgraceful. In my opinion the NBA should review every game and give retroactive technicals to the truly obvious flops (Tyrus Thomas, I think, and Bosh in last year's playoffs).

One thing I do like is that the refs aren't awarding as many free throws...the number of fouls per game is at a 20 year low for many teams.

I have been sick of the flopping since Vlade Divac. The NBA has become La Liga, for crying out loud. It really takes away from the beauty of the game as you are having stoppages every 30 seconds for fouls. I heard a good discussion on this yesterday and one of the guys said the NBA needs to look to the NHL on how to curtail this kind of behavior. The NHL put the foot down on diving and now you can get a game misconduct penalty if caught. The NBA should do the same - make it a technical foul and if a guy gets 5 technicals for flopping he gets suspended one game or something.

Yes, God I hate it with a passion. Almost as much as I hate how easily some technical fouls are called at times and how refs favor the superstars. If they're so good, should they need you to help them?
I hate a lot of the rules too. DEFENSIVE 3 seconds? That's ridiculous. If you're a pro ball player and you have a pro coach, you should be able to find a way to score no matter what. I had to adjust my game in high school when we played against a big shot blocker, why is the game easier for pros?
I love the NBA but a lot about it annoys me as well, I could go on a huge rant myself, but I won't bore you with that. But if they keep making the NBA and NFL as soft as soccer, they are going to lose A LOT of fans...

It's not just Lebron, any high basketball IQ player knows how to flop. Steve Nash, Kobe, Durant, Pierce and the real king of flopping Dirk. Yes the NBA today is more offensive oriented and I think it is hurting the game. Players aren't as skilled as they were back in the "golden era", players are too friendly with one another and games are won and lost with free throws. What can you say about the refs, I mean they miss calls, they aren't like the old refs, they knew that it wasn't personal and wasn't so fast to fire a "T" at someone. But I have to say this defense requires more skill than ever, since the hand checking rule basically allowed a poor defender look great. So it works both ways some guys would probably be out the league if it wasn't for hand checking. And some players today are thrieving with the no hand checking. D.rose would not get the rim as easily as he does, Westbrook, and Rondo for sure, he might not be in the league if hand checking was still legal. The defensive 3 seconds rule isn't ridicules, coaches should be able to teach their players proper rotations, the zone is basically the same thing, its cheap and hides players that can't play defense. I just completely disagree with the rest of your statements but hey to each his own.

Yeah, I'm sick of it too and I think they could do something about it... Fine them if it's an obvious flop, I don't think thats to hard or hand out technicals and if they still do it then fine the crap outta them... Give the coaches 2 or 3 chances to challenge a foul, then fine them for slowing the game down, it's so simple and needs to be fixed
