PRO-AM: TEAM STRUCTURE, LEADERSHIP & COMMUNICATION

This post will cover my personal philosophy of moving away from traditional hierarchal leadership as much as possible, in favor of a flat structure making collaborative decisions.

Pro-Am teams using this flat team structure should have a team of self-motivated people voluntarily taking on responsibility when possible.

What that eventually looks like is ultimately the team's collective opinion, but the ... Read More

This is a post in a series of blog posts describing the process of player modifications, ratings changes or signature skill changes that went into my PS4 NBA 2K14 Offseason Update Roster.

I will be honest and say I didn't spend any time graphing out Free Throw. 2K simply uses the free throw percentage directly as the rating. For instance, LeBron James shot 75.3% in 2012-13 and 75.0% in 2013-14, thus his rating is 75.

2K appears to have followed this formula to a fault, ... Read More

I made some adjustments to Pick'n'Roll signature skills, based on this NBA Hang Time Blog post.

I've added the corresponding pick 'n' roll signature skills to all the players "Most points per pick-and-roll possession, tandem" table.

In addition, I added LeBron/Bosh to ... Read More

Based on the field goal shots by zone statistics from last year (Seen at NBA Stats) and typically players awarded the Corner Specialist signature skill typically had a minimums of 70 corner shots, 30% of his three point shots from the corner, made 40% of his corner shots and shot 15% better from ... I looked at the SportVU Data at NBA Stats.

The players who had the Catch 'n' Shoot signature skill on average score 4.2 points per game, roughly 8.2 points per 48 minutes and shoot with 57.2% effective field goal percentage.

Thus I added everyone who fit those qualifications ... Read More

When trying to duplicate 2K's rebound rating formulas, I thought the best method would be to disconnect my PS4 from the internet, then look at the original roster and see how that compared to the 2012-13 season.

Red is offensive and blue is defensive rebounding, unseen but still in ... Read More

This is a post in a series of blog posts describing the process of player modifications, ratings changes or signature skill changes that went into my PS4 NBA 2K14 Offseason Update Roster. In my opinion, trying to analyze NBA 2K14's shot medium rating was both the most interesting and difficult to understand.

When trying to duplicate 2K's rating formulas for medium range shot and 3 point shooting to update the current roster's ratings, I thought the best method would be to disconnect ... Read More

When playing NBA 2K, I've often found the heights and weights inconsistent. I understand heights and weights are taken directly from NBA, but unfortunately that source is also inconsistent and/or not updated.

Height

Most NBA height measurements are considered the player's ... Read More

INTRO

This roster is mostly to adjust statistical problems in 2K12 when simulating seasons. My goal was to make roster changes based on statistical formulas or direct information. I wanted to remove all bias where possible, to that end, ratings/tendencies where I could not apply a direct statistical model didn't get changed. I felt if I changed ratings that I didn't have a formula for, then my ratings would have the same type of bias as 2K and therfore no better for the public. ... Read More
