SHOWTIME OPENS UP WITH WIN
Magic 32 Points As Lakers Take Out Warriors
The 1987 Los Angeles Lakers had the privileged of opening up the NBA Classic season with a home game at the Forum against the 1991 Golden State Warriors. An entertaining battle went the way of the home team as they pulled away in the 4th quarter lead by their two biggest stars.
Magic Johnson took more of a scoring role late but still managed to dish out 13 assists in the process. Johnson ended up with 32 points and a couple of triples while good old Kareem Abdul Jabaar won his matchup against Ralph Sampson and grabbed 19 rebounds in the win.
"It was really great to get the win and we have a couple of players on this team that can step up when we need them" said winning coach Pat Riley. "Getting the bugs out in a first game is also important."
The Warriors were lead by Mitch Richmond who had 23 points but shot only 8 for 22 from the floor.
