Penalties, Injuries, Doom the Flyers

A penalty filled game wore out the Flyers as they crumbled in the final minutes against Atlanta. Claude Giroux was absent for most of the game as he left after blocking a shot in the first period, and did not return. Defenseman Jan Hejda depleted the team even more in the second when he got a game misconduct for checking from behind. In the end the penalty killers and depleted team were unable to finish the task.

Hejda will have a hearing scheduled for his check, and the status of Giroux and Enstrom, who was injured late in the game, has yet to be seen. Hopefully neither will miss too much time.

In good news, Matt Halischuk had his first career three point game, scoring a dandy of a goal and adding two helpers. Kyle Brodziak and Nick Bonino stepped up big in Giroux's absence, logging huge minutes. If Giroux is out for an extended period of time though, the team can certainly bump one of Eberle or Schenn to center to help alleviate the pain.
