The Phoenix Suns
Not a lot to like here. The biggest offseason move for the Suns was the acquisition of Eric Bledsoe, at a position already being handled by Goran Dragic. Eric Bledsoe seems great in a vacuum, but he has yet to prove he can run an NBA offenses at an acceptable level. The Clippers struggled last year when Bledsoe had to run the point during Chris Paul's injuries, it will be interesting to see how he handles the job in Phoenix or if he ends up being marooned at the two guard praying for Dragic to throw him an alley oop.
3 Things I Love about the Phoenix Suns
1. Eric Bledsoe running and jumping.
2. Goran Dragic secretly being one of the best rim finishers in the league.
3. The mascot being a cool gorilla, even though I don't understand the Suns having a gorilla for a mascot.
3b. The Phoenix Suns world famous training staff.
3 Things I hate about the Phoenix Suns
1. Alex Len's feet. Never trust a big man with ailing feet.
2. Kendall Marshall already fighting for his NBA career in his second season.
3. Marcin Gortat's baldness.
Most compelling Storyline of the 2013-2014 Season
Twin Magic! This offseason the Suns looked at their recent history of acquiring the wrong NBA brother, you can't blame them. How can Blake Griffin and Brook Lopez be so much better than Taylor Griffin and Robin Lopez? So they decided to hedge their initial bet on Markieff Morris by acquiring his too identical twin Marcus Morris.
The biggest question now is how can new coach Jeff Hornacek use twin magic to his advantage. The first step is obviously assigning the clones the same number. Alternatively I suggest having one wear the jersey of the other team and sneak onto their bench, it's not like he'll do anything on the court to make them realize he's there.
One Trade to Make the Suns Better
WHAT!? A bottom tier NBA team wants to actually get better? No way, I won't believe it.
I'm of the opinion that the Suns' brass wants this to be Eric Bledsoe's team. So Goran Dragic is just in the way, and Alex Len could certainly use more of Marcin Gortat's playing time. Could they make a move for Rudy Gay? I think it's possible, especially if Eric Bledsoe proves to be capable of running the offense. If Toronto wants to tank, which seems to be the consensus around the league, Gay will definitely be available to teams with cap space like the Suns.
Phoenix Suns trade: Goran Dragic, Marcin Gortat's expiring, and a future 1st round pick
Toronto Raptors trade: Rudy Gay
But does Rudy Gay actually make the Suns better? And is he worth losing a first round pick? I don't know. The Suns ability to improve really depends on Eric Bledsoe becoming a true point guard, he's already an elite, athletic defender, now he needs to get smart.
Question to Phoenix Suns General Manager Ryan McDonough
Mr.McDonough I have two questions today. The first being much more important.
Why is the Suns mascot a gorilla?
Secondly, do you believe Eric Bledose can be a viable shooting guard in the NBA or do you plan on letting him and Dragic fight out for the one spot all year?
Phoenix’s Position in the Jersey Power Rankings
27.
The Suns are debuting a new look this year and while I admire the attempt to mix it up, the jerseys still fall flat to me. Most likely due to orange and purple looking weird together. I will say that these are better than the old jerseys however. Those were nauseating and would have finished last in my esteemed jersey power rankings.
