Barney Out for 2-3 Months with Hand Injury
CHICAGO- The Cubs' lineup suffered another blow yesterday as Darwin Barney was confirmed to have been placed on the 60-day DL after getting hit by a line drive, fracturing the fourth metacarpal, hamate, and pisiform bones in his right hand.
The Cubs' infield will receive a boost from the injury, as top prospect Javier Baez has been called up from Triple-A to replace Barney. Sources suggest he will be given the starting 2B position and be an everyday player.
We'll see how he performs, but now the fans at Wrigley get their first look at the exciting young infielder. For the Tribune, I'm Arnold Scheffbaum.
