Home Run Fest at Wrigley as Cubs take Game 1 of Series

CHICAGO- Coming off a win, the Chicago Cubs (7-10) had a home run fest, hitting four in a game. But the Arizona Diamondbacks (12-9) weren't invited.

The D-Backs took the lead in the first following a Mike Olt error and a Paul Goldschmidt double, but the Cubs jumped back to the lead after Emilio Bonifacio and Luis Valbuena homered. Both Edwin Jackson (1-1) and Daniel Hudson (1-1) would settle down, but Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson made the curious decision to pull Hudson for Trevor Cahill to begin the third. It would be a bad decision, as the Cubs would jump on him for three runs.

After that, it was pretty much over. The D-Backs would get another in the sixth, but two more HRs from Starlin Castro pretty much ended any chance of an Arizona comeback.

Luis Valbuena can feel the starting 3B job in Chicago growing nearer after this impressive game, even more so considering the performance of Mike Olt, who was 0-for-4. Nate Schierholtz also had a nice game to help lift his confidence with 2 hits.
