This goes back a few years (and you DO have to take into account that I am a Mets fan), but the Atlanta Braves make me sick.
Here they are, in first place again, after their sheer domination of the NL East was interrupted by the Phillies for a few years. And look around the stadium tonight... NO ONE is there!!!
How can you call yourself a major league sports city? And this was true during their "dynasty" years as well - especially late in the run. Empty seats for playoff games - and tons of extra seats during the regular season.
And here, in Bobby Cox's last season, a miraculous return to the top of the division. This has been a run that very few predicted, one that should have the fans flocking back to celebrate.
And instead, the Braves fans are staying away in droves.
Go ahead, blame the economy. But remember, these empty seats existed 5 years ago and at various times during the Braves heyday...
Support your team! (Because I am stuck watching a dreadful group of overpaid, undermanaged, poorly organized, unmotivated Mets once again playing out the string in late August and September.)
(addendum: did you see the fly ball that Carlos Beltran just completely blew in deep center? This guy is a seventeen million dollar joke... but that's another blog entry...)

I feel your pain as a Reds fan, under 15k in attendance, First playoff run in forever. 6 Game lead over the Cards, and no one shows up.

I'm a Mets fan too and I want them to lose every game just so they can clean house, gm/coaches everyone fired!

Braves and Hawks fan here and I agree on the lack of support teams get in the A. I can't do anything about it since I'm from Hawaii but it's just disappointing to see the Hawks and Braves get as much support as the Sacramento Kings.

It's weird you should say that as I caught a glimpse of the Braves game the other day and remember saying the exact thing to my wife, look at all the empty seats. Granted I'm a Cardinals fan and the way there losing consistently down the stretch to Houston,Washington,Pittsburgh thats where they oughtta be staying away from is Busch Stadium and let the mgmt know that won't be tolerated. Is down right embarrassing and everyone needs to be helds accountable. Oh and for me I'm so ready for Football and Hockey screw baseball.

i dont know if i agree, waspman - i don't think the best way to voice opposition is to "stay away" - i feel like fans should go to the game for enjoyment... maybe jersey sales or sports talk radio is the place to make your feelings known... i feel like if you're a fan - and can afford it - go support your team!

NYjin... not sure if that will even help... it seems like some on this team simply lack the makeup to win. to be REAL winners...

Atlanta has always been like this, not sure why. I know several people that live in Atlanta and they have both been to maybe 2 games since 1997 and they are baseball fans. The Reds that is a joke 15,000 people attending for a 1st place team?!
