The non-waiver trade deadline has come and gone uneventfully for the New York Yankees. Brian Cashman and the front office staff feel that the Yanks are in a good position and that no major moves were necessary. The pitching staff continues to excel and has been on a tear as of late. Even though the offense has been prone to disappear at times, as it did in the first two games of the KC series, it is nothing that they feel can't be fixed in-house.
As of August 2nd, the Yanks sit 5 games out of First Place, and only a half game out of the Wild Card. They have won seven of their last ten, and have just taken two out of three from the Rays. Hughes was stellar in his start, striking out 11 in 6 innings and the offense pounced on every opportunity they had.
We will see how things play out, and maybe the Yankees will make a move during August through Waivers. Some notable bats on the Waiver Wire as of now are:
Prince Fielder, Derrek Lee, and Magglio Ordonez.
While Fielder and Lee are VERY attractive options, the amount that New York would have to give up for a definite rental player would most likely be too high. Jesus Montero is tearing up AAA and Austin Romine is doing the same at AA. I wouldn't be surprised to see both of them move up a level in a few weeks if the Yankees need an offensive injection.

I has been quite, but there is a reason for that : the defending champs all as complete as any other team with the best infield in baseball. Yankees biggest need is relif pitching, may be a top notch iReliever s all they need.
