Mariners miscues cost them series opener

Oakland - An untimely error, and even more untimely hitting did in the Mariners as they could not muster more than one run in Oakland Monday despite four extra base hits, and six walks. The Mariners twice got a runner to third with less than two outs but failed to get him home, striking out both times. Also in the fourth inning a misplayed fly ball by James Jones let Josh Reddick come all the way around to score on what should have been a flyout to Center. The game didnt get much better for Jones, who after walking in the next inning, came up lame after a pickoff attempt and had to be pulled from the game. Right now the Mariners are listing him as day to day, but it may result in a bullpen arm going down to Tacoma to get an extra outfielder. Hisashi Iwakuma pitched well picking up a quality start going seven innings for the Mariners, who will now try to get back on track tomorrow by sending Erasmo Ramirez (0-0, 0.00 ERA) to the mound for his first start of the season. The A's will counter with Scott Kazmir (2-3, 2.68 ERA).
