Las Vegas -- Colorado State capped a great season with a 27-17 Las Vegas Bowl victory over Arizona State. The victory should help move the Rams up the season end polls and into the top 15.
Carlos Washington finished his college career with a bang as he was named player of the game after rushing for 161 yards and 2 touchdowns, he also got the offense roliing with a 76 yard touchdown run in the opening moments of the second quarter. "I felt great out there today. My legs were nice and lose, felt 100% for the first time since game one this year. I knew that I'd have the opportunity to break 1000 if I got enough carries, but I broke it with my long 76 yarder."
QB Pete Thomas was back for the bowl game, he played fairly well but did show a little rust as he passed for 226 on 13 of 23 passing for 1 touchdown and 3 interceptions. "I didn't think I'd make it back this year after breaking my ribs. I was thankful to just step onto the field today."
For the Sun Devils, QB Brock Osweiler finished his college career with a 172 yard 20-29 passing effort. All-American RB Covaughn Deboskie was held to 60 yards on the day. The ASU defense was the main draw today with MLB Vontaze Burfict collecting 13 tackles, DE Junior Onyeali with 2 sacks, and CB Deveron Carr returning an interception for a touchdown.
CSU coach Drew Gill commented while accepting the trophy,"The guys really came together this year, and I think that I've built some strong pieces to win in the future too. I'm going to enjoy this tonight, but tomorrow morning I'm heading out on the recruiting trail to tie up some loose ends on some promising guys I've seen."
Colorado State finishes the year with a 12-1 record.
