LAS VEGAS -- Colorado State didn't have any easy time, but they put together a solid effort to get the win 27-7 over UNLV.
CSU was lead by Klay Kubiak who was 16-32 passing for 250 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. "I made a few mistakes out there today. I'm going straight to the filmroom to see what I did wrong and hopefully, I won't make the same mistakes again." Kubiak mentioned after the game.
RB Chris Nwoke ran for 104 yards and one touchdown as he filled in for Carlos Washington who is nursing a sore calf muscle. Kubiak also had a score on the ground. "It felt great to get so many carries today. I accomplished a goal in getting a 100 yard game, but I'm disappointed in my avg yards being only 4 yards per carry." Nwoke said.
Defensive End James Skelton had 3 sacks on the day. "I knew that I was going up against a much slower man. So a little swim move and I was past him everytime. 3 sacks and a handful of QB Hurries is just about the best scenario I could have thought of coming into the game."
Sr WR Lou Greenwood commented on the fans after the game,"It's always great when we visit Las Vegas as we get that many more fans in the stadium, as they come for a weekend in the Sin City. Seeing those familiar faces in the stands helped us get pumped for the game."
Bad news for the Rebels as starting QB Taylor Barnhill is out for the remainder of the season after suffering a broken collarbone in the second quarter. The reigns have been handed over to RS Freshman Andrew Houston who went 12 for 22 for 135 yards in the game. UNLV also lost starting HB Tyler Gaffney in the third to a shoulder injury however, his status looks positive to return next week.
"We've got a fine looking team this year, the depth has surprised me a little as we've had injuries to the starting QB, HB and CB and haven't missed a beat in the games they've been laid up. I do look forward to Washington and Shaw coming back next week, they've spent two straight weeks in the filmroom studying and have helped the gameplan for today too." CSU coach Drew Gill said.
