Fort Collins, CO -- In what started out looking like a blowout for Boston College actually ended up in a 45-35 loss against Colorado State in the Independence Bowl.

Boston College was up 21-3 after the 1st quarter and lead 24-10 going into halftime, but Colorado State came out in the second half and put up 35 points to take the Bowl game win.

QB Klay Kubiak, who started due to Pete Thomas still having some tenderness in his throwing shoulder, was named player of the game as he was 20 of 37 passing for 303 yards, 4 touchdowns and one interception, and also rushing for one touchdown.

Kubiak found Byron Steele 8 times for 111 yards and two touchdowns. Matt Yemm and Matt Weems caught the other two touchdowns for the Rams.

For Boston College, starting QB Chase Rettig threw for 75 yards and one touchdown before injuring his knee and not being able to return. Backup Mike Marscovetra threw for 376 yards and 3 touchdowns on 18 of 40 attepts. Senior WR Billy Flutie caught 8 passes for 148 yards and 2 touchdowns, in what was another brilliant Flutie family bowl game performance.

On Defense, senior LB Mychal Sisson had 12 tackles with 3 for a loss and two sacks to lead CSU. While Junior LB Luke Keuchly had 9 tackles and an interception for the Eagles.

"I'm very proud of the team this year. To lose your starting QB and a key veteran on defense, and perservere like they did, shows tremendous character and heart." CSU coach Drew Gill commented.
