The Yanks had a decent month. Still sitting atop the relatively weak AL East with a record of 70 and 60. Tanaka is still sitting atop the AL Cy Young Voting. However, he seems to be dropping a lot of unlucky no decisions. It was great to beat up on the Red Sox in Fenway on the last game of the month heading into September.

The Yanks have still been an up and down team but they have managed to carve out a decent lead in the AL East going into the All-star break. The Yanks are currently sitting at 49-39 and have a 4.5 game lead on the Orioles. The top 3 teams in the MLB currently are: Mariners (58-31), Nationals (57-32), Brewers (56-35). Gardner leads the league with 114 stolen bases and Ellsbury has 113. Gardner has the highest batting average on the team at .295 and McCann still leads the team in HR with 12. Tanaka is 2nd in the AL in ERA with a 1.77 ERA. He continues to lead the AL in strikeouts (159) and WHIP (0.75). Pineda is a relatively close second with 146. The Yanks had another up and down month. Gardner and Ellsbury have picked it up a bit. They are both stealing bases in heaps as well. Gardner has 63 stolen bases on the year already and Ellsbury has 48. Beltran is still leading the team in RBIs with 33. McCann has 9 home runs on the year. McCann has cooled off in that respect considering he only had 2 homers this month. Tanaka is in the lead for the AL Cy Young currently. He is 7-3 with a 1.59 ERA, 100 strikeouts and 0.71 WHIP on the year.
The Yanks currently trail in the AL East by 1.5 games to the Orioles although they led the division most of the month.
Series results:

@ TOR 4-1 W, 5-3 W, 4-3 W

KC 4-1 W, 4-2 W, 4-1 W
@ OAK 5-3 L, 4-1 L, 6-3 L, 1-0 L
With the exception of the two road series against the A's and Royals the Yanks played well as a whole. The Yanks are heading to Seattle next and coming off of 4 straight losses they desperately need a win. It should be a tall order with Hernandez slated to start for the Mariners in the opening game of the series.

It was an up and down month for the Yankees, which amounted to a record that is just over .500. The top of the lineup (Ellsbury and Gardner) have been stealing bases "when" they get on but when is the key word there. They have both struggled to start the season, which is one of the two main issues for the team right now. Also, Sabathia and Teixeira did not look comfortable all month as well. Their age is catching up to them.
Beltran (.325) and McCann (.304) have been the two hottest hitters. McCann had 7 homers in the month of April and Beltran led the team in RBIs with 15. Young has filled in admirably off the bench. Tanaka has had some bad luck pitching really well and then losing games anyway. Eovaldi went 3-0 with a 2.54 ERA and 21 Ks and a 0.99 WHIP for the month. Adam Warren pitched decent as well with a 1-1 record 2.39 ERA, 17 Ks, and a 0.76 WHIP.
As a team the Yanks rank 2nd in the league in strikeouts with Tanaka and Pineda having 38 and 37 respectively. The Yanks lead the league in walks allowed with a very low 12. The Yankees rank 7th in ERA and 1st in fielding percentage and 1st in stolen bases.
The Yankees head into May facing their arch rivals the Red Sox at Fenway Park. They are currently 1 game back from the Red Sox in the AL East so the team needs to capitalize on this opportunity and build on it. Below is a score summary of each series:
Blue Jays: 5-2 L, 4-1 L, 4-3 W
Red Sox: 4-3 W, 3-2 L, 3-2 W
@ Orioles: 5-1 L, 8-5 W, 3-2 W

In real life: The Yanks were 84 and 78 last year. They finished second in the AL East. It was Jeter's final season, which ended with a flair for the dramatic only Jeter could produce.
My thoughts on the virtual baseball season for the Yanks this year: I am very much looking forward to using the Yanks this year since their team will be quite challenging to use this year. I struggle to break away from the real Yanks team with making trades and signing big free agents. I enjoy just developing prospects from within, which isn't really the way the Yanks do things in real life. I am still deciding on whether or not I will try to mirror the real Yankees or develop from within mostly. I am leaning towards molding the team the way I want it. I am going to try to finally keep a dynasty blog going this year.
