Half score for a half @++ game.

Just like last years, with more useless gimmicks. I don't have much fun playing it. NCAA is far superior in every way.

I like the visual upgrades they have made over the years, but gameplay (especially Franchise) is still lacking. Too much laziness when it comes to Franchise Mode.

Plays a decent game of football, but desperately needs improvement in several areas.

I've been an avid Madden gamer for 12 years - almost exclusively playing this title - but I'm done with EA's BS.
The reality is that Madden is not an authentic football simulation. Well, I can say this with conviction about single-player mode - maybe it's a blast online.
In a decade of massive technological advancements EA still haven't adressed a myriad of fundamental issues - like DBs being able to see out of the back of their heads, scripted gameflow that generally keeps the score close and makes 4th down conversions a formality, poor ball aerodynamics, physics-defying coverage, low-impact weather conditions and the list goes on and on and on and on and on... you get the point.
If the truth be told, and this will be a difficult pill for loyal fans to swallow, EA couldn't care less about making a perfect football simulator - they're in the business of selling games to teenaged MTV drones.
Kids don't have the ability or the interest to sustain a serious football campaign that deals with the off-the-field issues that lead to on-the-field success, hence the steady demise of franchise mode in recent years coupled with the absence of customised plays. In five years, it's going to be difficult to distinguish Madden from the arcade titles. Hopefully a developer with a bit of backbone swoops on the chance to earn the wads of cash floating around amongst gamers between the ages of 25 and 35. I'd much rather spend $100 on an honest attempt at a football simulator than $50 on the stale popcorn EA serve up every year.

Little tweaks here and there are not the answer to Madden's woes. Fix the presentation once and for all. Do what NFL2K5 did and what NBA2K11 does - simulate a true broadcast with good commentary, camera angles and halftime shows.

Not that good itself, really...
