I planned on doing this all year. Before MLB 11 came out, I decided I was going to post this. And then I forgot. So now, in the middle of May in my Orioles franchise, I will quickly update on what has happened thus far and then start posting every (in-game) week. Let's see how well this goes.
So I chose the Orioles because I like a rebuilding project. They might not be as far away from being good as other teams, but I still like the area and I like the team. I used the latest (at the time) SCEA Rosters. First priority was creating myself. I've done this in every franchise mode in any game I've ever played. Not sure why I just always have. When I create myself in a franchise mode I put my attributes as close to real-life as possible, then I bump everything up so I'm on par with a player who is AAA ready. I'm a switch hitting catcher with speed (yes that is accurate to real life) secondary position of the infield. Again, accurate to real life. Better defensively than offensively. This time around I had a phenomenal spring training and decided to put myself on the MLB roster at third, with Reynolds DHing, as he doesn't have the best hands out there on the field.
After that the next step was to trade Guerrero. I hate him with a passion. So a week or so into April I struck a deal with the White Sox. I gave up Guerrero, Pie, and a prospect for Adam Dunn, Gavin Floyd, and a pitching prospect.
Next move I made was to deal away Josh Bell, Brendon Harris and Adam Jones to the MEts for Jose Reyes, RA Dickey, and Dillon Gee. Figured I should strengthen the middle infield and pick up a big name. Didn't think it would be too out of the realm of possibility with Reyes' contract and the Mets not winning anything.
After that I did some house keeping with my minor league teams to give them full benches and bullpens. I also signed Willy Taveras as a bench player to fill a hole on the bench left by Jones. I also signed Rocco Baldelli and John HEster to minor league deals as part of my cleaning up and re-organizing.
Injury updates to this point. Ben Sheets (signed in spring training to use as a reliever) broke his arm during his second appearance and is out for another week or two. Rip Aoki, a minor leaguer I edited to make a Mussina-like pitcher, is out with a shoulder injury for another 3 weeks. Zach Britton is out for another month with a fractured wrist. Troy Patton is probably done for the year with a bulging disc. A minor league infielder by the name of Phillip Uchida has another couple weeks left of recovery from his shoulder injury. And minor leaguer Lou Rader is out for a couple months with a broken hand. I could do without any more injuries.
Here's what the team is looking like so far:
