Nba 2k23 PC will be old gen

https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/nb...ck-pc-release/

For the third year in a row, the PC player base is left out and will be given and old gen Version of the game. this is just ridiculous.

also the Statement in the article, that 2k does Not sell Well on PC is just Not True. i remember that 2k20 or 2k21 Sold roughly 2 Million copies on PC which is a significant amount of Total sales.

Re: Nba 2k23 PC will be old gen

they'd lose money.
NOt everyone who is a PC gamer would have the specs to run NBA2k23 if it were next-gen. They would have to make two versions for PC.

My PC can't run the last 2 versions of NBA 2k. I'm sure there are a lot of people in the same boat.
Also, some people cant update their PCs every 5 years.

Im finally about to build a new rig

i build my Former PC in 2013.it Was able to run every nba 2k from that gen, so starting from nba 2k13 up until today. once the PC is capable of running one game of one console gen, it will be capable to run every of that gen. no "every 5 years".

My bet is while they are still milking last gen and despite the marketing speak essentially only making the one game for both generations with tweaks, they don’t want pc modders showing how lacking their “next gen” graphics actually are.

Once last gen is finally left behind, they’ll put the effort into a true “next gen” game that will rival anything a modder can do and release the pc “next gen” version.

Bizarre to lump modding and hacking together like that, except in the sense that neither is likely the issue. Generally game developers range from being indifferent to encouraging modding. If they're indifferent, it's because who cares what customers do privately to their own game; it has no impact on the bottom line. If they're encouraging, it's because they see value in a thriving modding scene around their game (Skyrim is the posterchild for this in recent history, with so much of its longevity and legendary status tied to the deep repertoire of mods for it; Bethesda has long recognized the value of this free labor / publicity and has helped facilitate it). As for hacking, implementing safeguards for hacking is just a basic fact of life for online PC gaming, and it's not some herculean task that's going to deter you from developing such a game if you think there's a healthy market for the game on PC.

That leads us to what is likely the real issue: the lack of what 2K considers to be a worthwhile market for the game on PC. It makes sense; this is a sports game, which means the player base is likely much more casual and much less nerdy (and thus much more likely to be gaming on a console rather than a PC) than consumers of the sorts of open-world RPGs that get much more love on the PC (and active encouragement for modding, as free labor / publicity) from their developers. 2K's actions suggest that there are enough buyers for the PC version that it's worth releasing one, but only if it can be done with next to no effort—the equivalent of "Save As"-ing the game in PC form. Maybe new-gen would take actual financial commitment to optimize for PC, whereas old-gen is primitive or already developed enough that it can be comfortably run without any new PC-specific development. Bottom line is that if a market is perceived for PC, the need for hack protection is not going to stand in the way of tapping that market, and the fact that people will mod the game is a total nonissue.

Part of the reason why I'll never get a gaming PC. **** like this. PCs are capable of running the next gen version. Just release both versions. Next gen for higher end beefy PCs and the last gen version for those with lower specs.

lol This is not true. Every AAA PC game in the history of PC gaming has graphics settings to allow you to spec it to your system.

The reason that 2k isn't releasing next gen on PC has nothing to do with specs or the ability for people to run the game on PC.
