Fantasy Draft Strat

Hey legends!

I’m new to baseball/the show (sorta), and love doing fantasy draft leagues in sports games, do you guys have any recommended strategies for fantasy drafts?

I've done plenty of them over the years on The Show for my franchises. But not this year. Anyway, the CPU drafts fairly smart and with the future in mind, so older high priced veterans don't go early, the young stars go in the first few rounds so get a young star or two early because they'll be gone.

Re: Fantasy Draft Strat

In years past when I have had difficulty deciding on who to play as in franchise, I have done fantasy drafts, but I found the AI to be lacking and I would get a really good team.

What I've done is 30 team control and drafted for all of the teams. I would then try to build each team in a fashion that was either suitable to their park, or their traditional type teams. So a lot of sluggers for the Yankees, good contact/doubles hitters for the Red Sox, pitching heavy for the Braves, platoon guys and pitching for the Rays etc.

Re: Fantasy Draft Strat

The AI is pretty smart, so it's hard to build a powerhouse just from the draft itself. I try to focus on my 40-man roster 1st.

10 SP (4 lefties)
11 RP (3 lefties)
1 CP
3C
3 1B
6 IF
6 OF

I try to grab a 80+ SS, CF, power corner bat (IF or OF), 2 SP and CP with my first 6 picks, but that doesn't mean I am right or it always works out that way. If they can still be well under club control, I go for those players 1st. Typically, I try to go with no more than 2 or 3 guys who are ELITE.

Once I have my core (26 man starting roster), I am more than OK to draft young guys rated in the 50's/low 60's to fill out my depth chart rather than drafting older established guys rated in the 70's. That is what your farm system is there for....to develop.

Elite Prospects go fast, so be ready to have them in your starting lineup. You won't be able to "stash" them in your minors to develop unless you are OK with drafting starters who are getting up there in age in the later rounds.

Drafting 90 rounds is rewarding but exhausting. Much like a real-life fantasy baseball draft, you need to have a plan, and I personally have a spreadsheet that looks sorta like this so I know what position I need to go to next.

21 SP (at least 8 lefties)
21 RP (at least 6 lefties)
3 CP
8 C
6 1B
15 IF
16 OF

Hope some of this helps!

Re: Fantasy Draft Strat

I really like fantasy drafts, but with The Show I haven’t done one. The AI draft logic drafting too many relievers has been my issue. I’m not sure what to do, no one seems to divulge their work around. Any tips would be awesome!
