The team has a ton of young talent, it spent just enough on veteran players over the last few years that there are some good clubhouse leaders and the young pitching looks like it’s poised to take the next step. The good news, for Royals fans who are hoping to see a team that could compete, is that the AL Central is not exactly a slaughterhouse. The Chicago Whitesox are expected to be very, very good. The rest of the division could end up being a nice road to the the expanded postseason. The first step towards contending, and maybe making more that a two year run of excellence will be to find consistency. That the team has Zack Greinke anchoring the pitching staff on opening day could certainly help. What happens after that is anyone’s guess.
