Madden 22 Franchise: Playing with Salary Cap Off

I got through a season of my Chargers franchise (simmed my way through) and I got to the offseason and noticed that under cap room, it said it was "N/A". I checked my settings and it turns out that I accidently turned it off and can't turn it back on.

Question I have for you guys is how would you play this franchise?

For me, I could give myself a challenge. I'll build my team as if the salary cap is on (re-sign screen still shows you how much "cap" you have left and such), while the cpu teams can do whatever they want without $$ restrictions.

Madden 22 Franchise: Playing with Salary Cap Off

You actually might be better off playing Madden 22 without the salary cap in a solo franchise?

The majority of CPU teams are routinely pressed for cap space the first few years of Franchise and the game doesn’t offer enough tools for creating cap space, so you end up with many good players stuck in free agency and the CPU can’t sign them because they don’t have cap space. Tiburon’s short-term band-aid for this issue this year was to simply increase the Madden salary cap to a figure significantly above the real-world salary cap. Even having done this, the problem persists.

I think a full answer to this question requires an understanding of how the CPU behaves without the salary cap enabled; I actually don’t know what impact that has on their team management logic at all.

Turning off the sal cap helps out the AI immensely. They can actually resign some people and they are much more aggressive in FA because they aren't all broke.

Interesting.

I only have got about 2 years into my franchise since the scouting update due to lack of interest, but my question is do they offer insane contracts since there is no cap, or is it still relatively down to earth? (I would check myself, but it would take forever to start over, and then sim to the off season)

It makes me wonder how you can actually outbid the CPU since once you hit "next week" it can essentially just outbid you since there are no constraints? Or is it bound by the green/yellow/red line best offer order?

IDK what the exact constraints were, but the AI would not just automatically outbid you, so it definitely has some mechanic holding it back apart from budget.

TBH I only ever used FA to find stop gaps. If I couldn't get a player for the "fair offer" I left them for the AI to sign or not. Making the AI more competitive was the point, so taking advantage of the lack of cap to pillage FA would defeat that purpose.

Franchise AI is not a cut-throat opponent. If you want them to give you a game then it is necessary to allow them some handicaps.
