CPU only shoots close to goal

Hey, I suspect this isn't so much of a slider question as it is bad AI programming, but as the title suggest: when I play the CPU the only take shots from deep in the slot, close to the crease - and it's kills all immersion of a hockey game.

Do you guys recognice this, and has anyone found a solution to make the AI more dynamic with taking shots from the wholezone, including the blue line?

I know the AI is very boring to play against, but this single issue really kills the whole game for me.

I agree..I see that too. I have played about 10 games in and have not seen a slap shot from the blue line yet.

Although the rest of the game seems to be pretty competitive,,,lack of CPU slap shots from the blue line makes the game predictable.

You don't have to worry about covering the blue line. Just concentrate on the slot area and the CPU can hardly score.

This is a HUGE problem in nhl 22. When the forwards get the puck in your zone, they will have tunnel vision and attack the net with close in shots even when it is covered. They rarely rarely pass the puck to back to the points, and when they do, all the dmen do is pass the puck back down low for the forwards.

Not only is this one dimensional, the cpu dmen rarely rarely shoot at all. In nhl 20 cpu dmen involvement in offense is perfect, they rush, they take screened wristers, slap shots/one timers from points.

Even after editing cpu ai dmen shot bias to 0 ( max shot tendency), they still on average in my games register 2 shots on net per game. And 90 percent are wristers.

The shot bias for dmen looks like its more for simulation stats. For me this is a big gameplay killer.

I agree with you but with hipnotiics sliders I see tons of point shots , tip ins and goals as it's all how you setup your sliders . I played many sets and with skill tweaks it plays the most like real hockey for myself .

Interesting. I have tried a lot of different adjustments without manage any changes to the horrible CPU programming. They still mostly force themselves all the way to the crease before shooting. Or try a one time pass. Could you maybe link to the slider set you mention?

He's talking about my "gamechanger" ones that are posted. I actually have a newer set I still am tweaking/finalizing before I post on here, but my sliders + strategy adjustments have lead to the CPU attempting point shots a decent amount of the time.

I am one who refuses to play franchise mode because a "single team" experience without being able to adjust the CPU strategies leads to boring gameplay. I also use a custom roster set as well and will be keeping track of a season on an excel sheet rather than using the in-game season mode.

It's a radical approach to playing this game, but it's the best experience I've ever had playing an EA game too. For me, there's no other way to do it.

Preseason game if anyone is interested:

Looks great! Can't wait for you to post the new sliders + strategy adjustments.
