Crossing bug?

Playing on PS4, wondering if anyone else has this issue.

When trying to play in a ground cross using double tap square, 75% of the time it results in an odd chipped pass into the box. Every now and again it'll result in a ground cross, but can't count how many times it's this dinky chipped pass that goes nowhere.

Anyone have any help here?

Not happening on ps5.

Only thing I can think of: maybe you tap too quickly on square for the second time,so, it's doing a really weak cross?
(1st tap on square is filling up the power bar, second one is only to trigger the ground cross, instead of the regular cross)
