Is this a game for someone new to the sport?

I have never played hockey before and would like to learn about the sport.
Is this a game that someone like me can play.
I want to try a new game. I play FIFA primarily and don't want to play Madden or NBA 2k.

Does this game teach hockey strategy for newcomers to the sport?

Any recommendations on how to get started would be appreciated.

Yes. I got tired of Madden and the NFL in general. I started watching hockey and playing the video game. It is a lot of fun. I think a key to enjoying an EA sports game is not having a deep understanding of the sport. I don't notice everything they do wrong, though I am starting to. I also, at age 49, started playing hockey in real life. Going to my second game tonight. I am horrifically terrible. Having a blast.

I agree with you 100% on the fact that not fully understanding the sport will help me have more fun with the game. I do not know the strategy of the sport so I can just have fun with it.

I am going to download NHL 21 on Gamepass and play for free. If I like It I will pick up NHL 22.

Having current rosters is not important at this point. I can just play for the fun because it is brand new.

As a previous poster said, knowing less = more fun to be had with this game. It will teach you some basic concepts of the sport and will probably be an enjoyable experience. It's an objectively decent video game that does a decent job of pretending to care about the sport.

For comparisons sake, I really enjoy Madden. I've never played a snap of football and the game offers a legitimate fun factor and challenge. I don't know enough to pick a part the game so I just have fun.
