Konami Clarifies eFootball Information Following Trailer Reveal

The reaction to yesterday's eFootball reveal by Konami was universally poor. If Konami's goal was to...

Damage done for me.

Not interested in a FTP model. It’s not exciting and they killed PES.

A DLC of the master league will not ever present a step forward.

Gutted tbh

Hated the idea at first but the more I think/read about it I think it could end up being great. To their point, if all I play is Master League it would be nice to only have to pay for that and would expect more improvements to it than other sports games do their franchise mode since they are essentially selling the mode. Many other sports games rarely update their franchise mode anymore.

Also, they will not have to worry about the strict cut-off period there is for the yearly games which should keep the development running more efficient year-round.

I think it is going to be a rough start until they get all the teams/modes up and running but when they do I think it will show everyone the benefits of this model. I think everyone is just hesitant to change which is human nature.

Re: Konami Clarifies eFootball Information Following Trailer Reveal

Imagine if they had released a 6 minute trailer with all the random bits that have been in covered or clarified in the first place. Instead we were shown a vague roadmap, told the game is now free, terrible graphics with clipping and poor rendering and clips of Pique and Iniesta talking about random football topics(seriously KG I thought you knew the ambassadors lol)

F2P helps the mobile version and MyClub make them money so I don't have to pay $70 for modes I'm not interested in and I only pay for master league at a reasonable price... let's do this. I don't find f2p inherently bad as what most people think of is crappy mobile games. Fortnite, Apex Legends, Rocket League, tons of MMOs all are f2p and are good games. It really comes down to how much gets locked behind a paywall.

Some of what still needs to been known
- will ML available at launch if not how soon after.
- Is ML a one time DLC and then we just pay for updated kits/rosters every year?
- What, if anything in ML will behind a paywall.
- OF will they be the same, more robust or is this going to stripped back to force user to pay for 3rd kits, leagues etc. via mtx.

The roadmap was just about cross play basically. Which I don't really care about.

So I'm guessing the early autumn is technically the demo period/official release. Since it seems pretty bare bones. This also marks the last time we'll get a "demo" since yearly releases are no more. Also early autumn does that mean the actual fall equinox around Sept. 20/21 or is that code for early September.

Konami thought killing off the PES name and announcing the game was free would get people excited without much context outside of vague statements and a roadmap, yeah no that's a recipe for disaster. Whoever signed off on yesterday's announcement clearly doesn't know what they are doing.

I'll give the game a shot since it's free as I'd rather not play that other game.

Well that was more than I intended to write lol.

My thoughts exactly!

After 2 years and sprinkles here & there about things like “moving to the unreal engine”, “new partner clubs”, and the like you roll decide to roll out THAT POS trailer?

This is what we were sold on for graphics

And this is what we got

Why would you even show the game like that? Like, who OK’d that trailer and those gameplay clips? They could have used a suped-up modded PC version if they’re not ready yet which everything about this trailer screams “it’s not ready yet”. They don’t even have names for some of their modes and it’s basically going to be a demo at release. Konami have always sucked at PR and relied on Adam’s Twitter following to clean up messes but man that’s just unfair to him. Just a clusterfck of a release that just so happens to coincide with EA opening up the floodgates for info on ‘22.

All that being said, it’s F2P with ala carte mode offerings so I don’t understand how anyone could be against that. If EA did that and folks had to only pay ~$30 for a game with no FUT people would be extremely happy. Anyway, it’s definitely going to be worth checking out and hopefully they release tidbits of info from here until late August.

I wish I knew those guys although Pique wouldn’t be too happy with my jab

I thought the Pique jab was well warranted lol.

Thanks for the information collected here, definitely a little breath of air for me. I hope but don't expect that making ML an additional DLC means that more effort is into it because customers will actually putting money specifically toward that game mode. I've been loyal to PES to a fault over the years but atleast this way I get to test it out for free before spending my money to play a stale ML.

Re: Konami Clarifies eFootball Information Following Trailer Reveal

I'm a no on this. I only play off line and spend more time in league or cup than an ML mode that didn't get updated for the entire generation. I'll stick with 20 or the season update. Fairly certain ebaseball 2021 grand slam will be the last purchase from konami unless a lot is made right.

Re: Konami Clarifies eFootball Information Following Trailer Reveal

How you can you both be so hyperbolic before the game has even launched? We've heard nothing about DLC pricing or what Master League is going to look like this year. The game could very well end up sucking but it could also ended up costing $30 with an improved ML.

How do you know a DLC of Master League will never present a step forward? AFAI, it has never been attempted in a major sports title. I really don't get the hate and panic at this stage. How does everyone losing their mind about this not have permanently high blood pressure? Everything must be so intense for you.
