Having Major Issues With Good and Even Perfect Contact Being Hits on Legend

Before I begin, let me say that I play on Legend difficulty, default sliders, and competitive (stick skills reign supreme). With that said, I'm really having major issues right now.

Over the last 2 games, I've had exactly 4 swings with "perfect" feedback and on those 4 swings I'm literally 1-4 with the one being a sharp single and the other 3 being two warning track fly outs and a line out to center. Couple that with the "good" feedbacks I'm getting and I'm starting to think, based on my team .219 average, that this whole "stick skills reign supreme" thing isn't really accurate at all.

I play on competitive because I figured it's the most realistic in terms of seeing results based on my stick skills, but I'm not seeing that at all. My strikeout numbers are very realistic, but the sheer amount of balls put in play, especially the hard hit ones, simply aren't falling in for hits.

Obviously the first thing anyone would say is either increase contact or timing slider by one notch but as soon as I do that, the hits come in droves at a completely unrealistic rate so I'm in a bind.

Is anyone seeing this, especially on the higher difficulties, using either simulation or competitive style of play?

Perfect timing just means you timed your swing perfectly. It doesn't mean anything else. Launch angle, exit velocity, etc. will still be determined by other factors in addition to the timing of your swing.

For example, if you get a perfect swing timing on a sinker low and away with a downward input on directional hitting, it's probably not going to go particularly far. If a defender happens to be standing in the path of the ball, you're going to be out, and perfect timing isn't going to prevent that.

The same goes for pitching. If you use pinpoint pitching, and you get 100% perfect on all inputs, that doesn't mean it's going to be a strike. It just means that the ball will go pretty much exactly where you intended. If you were aiming dead middle of the zone, the CPU is going to hit a home run, regardless of your perfect input.

How long have you been noticing the issue? 4 swings is probably the smallest sample size I've ever heard cited lol.

In the game I'm currently playing against the Indians, I have 3 "perfect" hits in the first 4 innings. 2 homeruns (Goldschmidt & Arenado) and a single (Carpenter)

This is Legend default with Zone hitting - simulation style gameplay.

Perfect is about barreling. Should see a nice .500 BA on those swings but that still just makes it a literal coin flip as to whether you’re getting a hit.

I also think about swing-type on these swings: how many barreled regular swings would have been triples instead of fly outs had you used power swing instead? Dozens of similar variables like that.

I've been playing the game since release and been noticing this, just figured I'd wait and see if anyone else made a thread about it.

My team batting average is. 219 and not because of strikeouts.

Nothing falls in anymore.

I may have to try simulation because the competitive function doesn't seem to play to its intention. When they say stick skills reign supreme, I figured it meant if you were good with the stick and got good contact a lot, you'd be successful a decent amount of the time. Doesn't seem to be that way at all, especially on higher difficulties.

As you've already mentioned, it might be worth trying simulation. That's what I use and I've not experienced any issues that have sustained or persisted over multiple games. I've not played on competitive, so I can't really speak on it. But, if it's a constant issue on that game mode then switch it up and see what happens. Keep us posted!

Does simulation vs competitive really change anything gameplay wise? I thought the consensus was that it's basically just a settings preset.
