PS5-Can't extend contracts but I can sign free agents?!

In my franchise, I have six players that in the preseason the game said I could extend the contracts to. However, when I try to extend them, the game says I don't have the money. However, I have an available budget of 24.6 million. I can sign free agents to multiple years and millions of dollars. I then simmed to the trade deadline when it allows you to extend contracts again. Still running into the same "no money" thing then. What's going on?

It happened to me last night. I was looking forward to having budget turned on this year. Guess we have to turn it off, lol

BEFORE you start your franchise , you can select ignore budgets or have them on. I always ignore them. As far as extending contracts, you can only do this during spring training and at the trade deadline , or off season
