Stealing bases

It seems almost impossible to steal. I have a guy with 85 spd and 70 stl. I gage the pitchers motion to see if it's worth going. The catcher can have low arm strength and still throws me out by a mile. And thats with taking an extra lead too. Any help?

Click L2 for the runner you want to steal. Then as the pitcher comes set hold L1. While holding L1 keep your eyes on the pitcher and as soon as he makes his move towards the plate release L1.

I have tried that and it doesn't seem to work as it should. I dont see my runner move as soon as i release the button.

Work on your timing. Because this is exactly how it’s supposed to be done. Also get a good lead, that extra foot helps a ton. I have 10 SB and I play with the Jays(not a running team)

What is the speed rating of the players you are trying to steal with? I would not try with guys under 75. Also I try to pick certain counts to go on. 2-0 , 2-1, 3-1. if you try too early in the count they will slide step or pitch out. Obviously you want to steal on an offspeed pitch too.

Re: Stealing bases

All you have to do is hit L2+the analog stick direction for the base they are on before the pitcher starts his delivery. Pre-load it.

There is no need to hold L1 or hit L1 or anything like that. There is also no need to increase your lead.

Player ratings matter a lot here.

What matters most is running in the right counts. That's where success comes in. Never run on 0-0, 0-1, 0-2, or 1-2 as these are good counts for the pitcher to pitch out.

I have never used anything other than the above and honestly, my SB totals have been first in the entire league in my last 3 seasons in 20, 19, and 18. So far this season, I am tops again just over a month in.

I should note that my stealing and baserunning sliders are at default. If these are adjusted, it is also a common cause.

Yea I’ve never used L1(holding it I mean) either, just L2 pre- pitch. Taking that extra step with L1 is not needed but it can help. Best time to steal is on breaking balls and not when they slide step.

Pre-load steal with L2. Taking an extra lead step by pressing tapping L1 is not necessary and leads to WAAAY too many throws over and pick offs. Holding L1 and releasing it when the pitcher makes his move home makes a huge difference in the jump. I just recently discovered this technique and it works great. You should definitely try it out.
